The Indramat MKD series servo motors used on sorter in-feed belts are a common sight in our workshops. This servo motor is used in many automated warehouses across Europe. This motor was sent in for repair when it failed on an automated sorter. The fault condition was ‘encoder error’ this is a common fault with this type of servo motor. The motor was assessed in our Servo Motor Repair Workshop. The motor was stripped down and all the mechanical parts were cleaned, the rotor was balanced, the windings were integrity checked and new bearings were supplied and fitted. We assessed the resolver stator and found a common fault with it. The resolver stator and rotor are matched pairs, we hold a number of these in our stock and replaced the faulty one with a new complete assembly. The encoder memory board was checked and the alignment memory was downloaded. The board was fitted to the motor and the alignment was reprogrammed. The servo motor was light run tested to check for correct operation and then it was fitted to our dynamic load rig for final load test verification.
