Fanuc servo motors are by far the most common servo motors we repair. But what makes this particular repair different? It was repaired on an emergency breakdown basis as the customer had a vital robot out of action and no spares. Nothing unusual there. What made this repair different was that it was bought to us here in the UK from Germany by taxi with the instructions to wait while the repair was carried out! The customer was based in Lower Saxony Germany and knowing our international reputation for servo repairs, considered that fastest route to us would be by taxi. The husband and wife taxi team travelled virtually none stop through the night arriving here early morning. In the meantime we assembled a service kit for this type of motor so that we could action the repair on arrival. Whilst the taxi team endeavoured to get some rest in our conference room, the motor was dismantled and assessed. It was found that the motor had been "flooded" with grease. The stator was washed out, and stoved until a satisfactory IR reading was achieved, Baker surge tested,, varnished and cured. As the none drive end end shield bearing housing was out of specification, this was bored and sleeved. New bearings were fitted. A full replacement service kit for the holding brake was also fitted. The motor was reassembled with the encoder having then been tested on our Fanuc test rig for serial encoders and then aligned to the motor. Finally, a full dynamic load test was carried out. The taxi team set out for the return 600mile return journey later that afternoon. |
