A customer had a Siemens PSU from their machine tool fail unexpectedly. This led to unplanned downtime and consequently a reduction in output from the production cell, the problem was compounded as they are a Tier 1 supplier to the automotive industry working to‘just in time’ schedules. We were phoned to collect the PSU and effect a repair on an emergency basis. The customer site was in Kent and we knew it could take up to 6 hours before we saw the PSU even before the repair was started. Knowing the pressure the customer was under we checked our service exchange stock of Siemens CNC machine tool control parts and luckily we had a number of these in stock. The customer accepted the exchange unit and requested it to be delivered to him ASAP. The PSU was delivered to him by a motorcycle courier within 3 hours.
