Description – Snapped shaft on a Siemens servo motor

Here we give just one example of the benefits of having a fully integrated servo motor repair shop and mechanical repair shop under one roof. Snapped shafts are not uncommon on servo motors that we receive from customers. The question asked does this render them uneconomical to repair? Not necessarily so. In this example, our many years experience with Siemens servo motor repairs enabled us to provide a quality guaranteed repair at an economical price. i.e. at roughly 25% of the replacement motor price. Our Servo motor shop repair technicians dismantled the motor in question removing all the component parts enabling our Mechanical shop technicians to press out the old shaft from the rotor pack. With our facilities of CAD drawings we were able to manufacture a replacement shaft to the OEM pattern and of the correct grade of steel. After refitting the new shaft to the rotor pack, dynamically balancing to Grade G1.0, and fitting new bearings, the motor was reassembled. Commutation sensors were realigned and the encoder was checked on our rig before refitting to the motor. Finally the light run and dynamic load tests were performed using a dedicated Siemens Servo Drive resulting in a 4NM load accelerating from 0-2000rpm
