At Fletcher Moorland we have the ability to repair DC motors of all shapes and sizes from small fractional horsepower power motors to Large Rail Traction motors.This 1 tonne Armature was removed from a DC Rail Traction Motor that had suffered an overspeed condition in service. Using a specialized profiling machine we measured the Total Indicated Run-out of the commutator, it was way above the operational specification for the motor. The engineer is machining the commutator on a lathe in our dedicated machine shop, he will achieve a Total Indicated Run-out of less than 30 microns for this commutator. The armature will then be dual-plane balanced, the DC motor will be assembled and test run before being fitted to the locomotive for many more years of service.
